The I.C.C.D. is an international organisation based on voluntary service. It establishes and organizes the World Individuals events for both Deaf men and women, World Teams Deaf Chess Championships, European, Asian (Continental) Clubs Chess Championships and friendly international tournaments.
They hosted a womens round-robin tournament as a side event at the Chess Olympiad and weeks after the tournament ended, decided to retroactively declare the winner of the tournament, Vera Menchik, to be the inaugural Womens World Chess Champion.
Wilhelm Steinitz (1886-94) Steinitz is often considered the father of positional chess. He defeated Johannes Zukertort in the first-ever world championship, held in 1886.
Grand Master D. Gukesh became the youngest world chess champion ever after defeating Ding Liren of China in the final game of their match.
In addition to the Olympiad, a womens tournament was organized which was won by the 21-year-old Vera Menchik (with 10.5/11, drawing with Edith Michell) which led to her being declared the first Womens World Chess Champion.
