Some states allow an applicant to complete an application online, while others require an in-person visit to the office of the respective issuing authority. There are even states that require the applicant provide a list of non-related character references.
Beginning January 1, 2021, Senate Bill 263 and House Bill 264 go into effect. As a result, electronic or online firearm training classes will no longer be accepted with new applications for the Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit to satisfy the mandatory training requirement.
FEES FOR CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMITS ( 18.2-308.03) The court shall charge a fee of $10.00 for the processing of an application or issuing of a permit. Local law enforcement agencies may charge a fee not to exceed $35.00 to cover the cost of conducting an investigation pursuant to this Code section.
Law Changes Effective July 1, 2021 - There is a new application for Concealed Handgun Permits. Only applications with SP-248 (03-12-2024) in the upper left corner will be accepted. Please see below for the current application. Effective January 1, 2021 - Online certifications will no longer be accepted.
