One-on-one teaching takes place directly between a single student and one teacher. Rather than being in a group setting with other students around, one-on-one instruction provides a setting for more interaction with less distractions.
In a mathematical sense, these relationships can be referred to as one to one functions, in which there are equal numbers of items, or one item can only be paired with only one other item. The name of a person and the reserved seat number of that person in a train is a simple daily life example of one to one function.
One-to-one correspondence counting is when children are asked to count to 10 by placing one object on each number from 1 to 10. This can be done using hands-on games and activities such as using LEGOs, popsicle sticks or even ice cubes.
This developmental skill involves counting each object in a set once, and only once with one touch per object. For example, a child who touches each toy car in a row and says the number name aloud for each car touched, One, two, three, four is demonstrating the ability to count with one-to-one correspondence.
One-on-one activities are back-and-forth social interactions that you can engage in with your child. These activities can help foster a sense of safety, trust, and freedom in your child and encourage them to explore the world.
