SSP or Ship Security Plan is a mandatory document under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. An SSP is developed to provide direction on the procedures to be followed onboard a ship during emergencies and threats.
These ships must carry an International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) by which the flag state administration confirms that the security system has been verified, the ship complies with all requirements and a ship security plan (SSP), approved by the flag state administration, is available.
In case of a security incident, that may include attempted or actual piracy, terrorism, armed robbery and similar attacks, the ships SSAS can be activated by the Master and responsible members of the crew to continuously send silent alerts to the flag State, as well as predefined recipients that include the ships

Each ship applicable to the ISPS Code should carry on board a Ship Security Plan approved by the competent authority or its authorized security accreditation body, and the ship should also obtain the International Ship Security Certificate issued by the competent authority or its authorized security accreditation body
