The Oregon Forest Practices Act (FPA) sets standards for all commercial activities involving the establishment, management, or harvesting of trees on Oregons non-federal forestlands.
In addition to federal protections, the Oregon Forest Practices Act (OFPA) has rules designed to protect threatened and endangered species that live in Oregons forests.
These include the federal government, which owns the largest portion of Oregons forestland, as well as state, county and municipal governments, private timber companies, nonprofits, tribes and small woodland owners, each with a range of goals for their land.
The Oregon Forest Practices Act (FPA) sets standards for all commercial activities involving the establishment, management, or harvesting of trees on Oregons non-federal forestlands. Oregon law gives the Board of Forestry primary responsibility to interpret the FPA and set rules for forest practices.
1941: Oregon adopted the Oregon Forest Conservation Act to address reforestation and fire protection. 1971: Oregon became the first state to implement a comprehensive set of laws governing forest practices, with the Oregon Forest Practices Act (OFPA).
