Fireblight. This disease is more damaging to crabapples than apple scab as it can multiple branches and even the entire tree during a severe infection. Severe fireblight infections may not occur every year, but when they do the results can be devastating.
How to identify apple scab. Leaf spots are round, olive-green, and up to 1/2 inch across. Spots are velvet-like with fringed borders. As they age, leaf spots turn dark brown to black, get bigger and grow together.
