Since UTSA launched the program in 2020, more than 5,000 students have enrolled at the university through Bold Promise. The program covers 100% of tuition and mandatory fees for eligible first-time freshmen from Texas.
Eligibility for a full ride scholarship depends on the specific scholarship program, but common criteria include: Academic Excellence. Leadership and extracurricular involvement. Athletic ability (for sports scholarships) Financial need (for need-based full ride scholarships)
Full-ride scholarships are awarded to only about 0.1% of students (Wignall, 2021). Nearly just as rare are full-tuition scholarships, which are awarded to only 1.5% of students (ThinkImpact, 2021). A regular high school student may have the qualifications for as many as 50 to 100 scholarships (Dickler, 2021).
How do I qualify? Be a Texas Resident. Have a family income up to $100,000.* Submit a FAFSA/TASFA by February 15 for Fall 2025. Admitted to UTSA by February 15 for Fall 2025. Rank in top 25% of high school class at the point of admission. Enroll full-time (12 credit hours or more) each semester.
Students may change their program of study, including majors, minors, concentrations, and degree type, up to the completion of 75 semester credit hours earned (not including dual credit, Advanced Placement (AP) credit, or other college credits earned while in high school).
