The purpose of the Sick Leave Pool is to establish an equitable way of allowing employees to share their accumulated sick leave with others in need of additional sick leave until the employee is eligible for the Colleges short-term and long-term disability programs.
The most common is that employees earn a specific amount of time for every hour, week, or month on the job. For these employees, their sick time is generally calculated per pay period. One common calculation is a half-day earned for every month of paid work. This usually amounts to 6 or 7 paid sick days per year.
PTO, which stands for paid time off, is a benefit some employers offer that lets employees take time off work while still getting paid. It combines different types of leave, like vacation, sick, and personal leave, into a single pool of time.
A sick leave pool is established to allow eligible state employees to use time contributed to the sick leave pool if the employee has exhausted the employees sick leave because of a catastrophic illness or injury or a previous donation of time to the pool.
The purpose of a sick leave pool is to allow general government state employees, within an agency, to pool sick leave to be used by participating employees who have a personal illness, accident, or injury. Participation in a sick leave pool must, at all times, be voluntary on the part of the employee.

Eligibility. You accrue paid sick time off if you are appointed to work at least 20 hours per week for at least 4.5 months. Students who are in positions where student status is a requirement do not earn sick time off. For more information, please see the universitys Handbook of Operating Procedures.
