Individuals and Households Program Eligibility The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified non-citizen. FEMA must be able to verify the applicants identity. The applicants insurance, or other forms of disaster assistance received, cannot meet their disaster-caused needs.
Question: Can I get reimbursed for food lost due to the disaster? Answer: No. Food loss is not covered by FEMAs Individual and Households Program (IHP). Voluntary Organizations in the disaster area may be able to help you with food needs.
How long will it take to get FEMA/State disaster help? If you are eligible for help, you should receive a U.S. Treasury/State check or notification of a deposit to your bank account within about ten days of the inspectors visit. Other types of assistance may be provided later, based on specific eligibility and need.

In some cases, FEMA may help pay for costs your insurance didnt cover, up to FEMAs maximum award amounts. For Fiscal Year 2024, these maximum amounts are $42,500 for Housing Assistance and $42,500 for Other Needs Assistance.
