A Foreign Service Pension System (FSPS) annuity without a Foreign Service Retirement and Disability System (FSRDS) component, and the FSPS component to an FSPS annuity with an FSRDS component must be computed on the basis of 1.7 percent of high-three average salary per year for each of the first 20 years of FSPS
For Foreign Service officers, your pension is more generous than your fellow traditional federal employees. You get 1.7% of your high-3 salary (well define that below) for the first 20 years of service and then you get 1% for every year you have after that.
For example, if an estimated Social Security benefit at age 62 is $20,000 and the number of years under the FSPS is 20 years, the formula would be $20,000 divided by 40 times 20, or $10,000.
