STATE LIBRARIANS EXCELLENCE AWARD This award highlights the importance of Michigan libraries services and recognizes an exemplary library for its commitment to excellence. The State Librarians Excellence Award is sponsored by the Roger and June B. Mendel Fund through the Library of Michigan Foundation.
By virtue of the Detroit Public Librarys longstanding designation as a statewide resource, all Michigan residents have enjoyed free access to the Librarys resources and services for many years.
The Library of Michigans Beginning Workshop Pathway is an online, self-paced, learning pathway in our Niche Staff Skills Academy. Anyone new to the profession or just hired at a library, no matter what their academic credentials, is welcome to take part in the course.
Duties Create and use databases of library materials. Organize library materials so they are easy to find. Help library patrons to conduct research to evaluate search results and reference materials. Research new books and materials by reading book reviews, publishers announcements, and catalogs.
Most librarians in Michigan must have a MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited school. Some pubic libraries, however, do not require librarians to have graduate degrees, based upon the size of the library.
