A rating of 2 or 3 on a CANS need suggests that this area must be addressed in the service or treatment plan. A rating of a 0 or 1 identifies a strength that can be used for strength-based planning and a 2 or 3 a strength that should be the focus on strength-building activities, when appropriate.
What is a cans score of 2?
2 and 3 = Scores of 2 and 3 always need attention of some type, as both indicate a docHub need or a lack of strength in a particular area. Items scored 2 and 3 should be addressed in the goals for a childs treatment. A score of 3 indicates a need for intensive and/or immediate attention.
How is the cans assessment scored?
CANS assessments cover 7 domains of child needs, history and functioning. Each domain receives a score of 0-3. Generally, a score of 0 in a domain indicates there is no issue or concern. A score of 1 means there is a mild level or history of behavior.
