Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%. Students who successfully complete the online portion of the course receive a certificate granting them access to a PALS Hands-on Session with an AHA PALS Instructor.
The PALS cutoff is the benchmark score: Grade 1 = 35, Grade 2 = 54, Grade 3 = 65. Classifications were based on simple 2 x 2 analyses of risk status on both measures. All classification analyses were performed in R version 3.5.
PALS measures childrens knowledge of several important literacy fundamentals: phonological awareness, alphabet recognition, concept of word, knowledge of letter sounds and spelling.
A standard score indicates a students performance relative to peers, with 100 as the average. This tells you how a student compares to others. A percentile rank of 80 means the student performed better than 80% of their peers.
The first number in the score column is your childs score on that task. The number in parentheses ( ) shows the benchmark score for that task. If your child scores at or below the benchmark, it indicates they need more help with that skill. The number in the MAX column shows the total possible score for that task.
