Whether provided by a VA Prosthetist and Orthotist or through a community OP provider, VA covers the full cost of the orthosis or prosthesis, as well as costs for repair and maintenance as appropriate for eligible Veterans.
Therapeutic footwear and in-shoe orthoses must be provided to Veterans when provision is medically necessary and an active component of their care. Therapeutic footwear includes custom-made orthopedic shoes, depth-inlay shoes, healing shoes, high-top shoes/boots and reinforced toe footwear.
Other Available Products. Hearing aid accessories such as external wax guards, cords, and ear hooks can also be obtained. Orthopedic corsets, belts, abdominal binders, and braces/supports are also available for management of spinal or orthopedic disabilities.
The term prosthetic includes artificial limbs and any devices that support or replace a body part or function. General eligibility for prosthetic services/items are for Veterans enrolled in the VA health care system and have a medical need for a prosthetic service/item.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides medically prescribed prosthetic and sensory aids to eligible Veterans. These aids include artificial limbs, hearing aids, communication aids, eyeglasses, orthopedic braces and shoes, wheelchairs, crutches and canes.
