Abstract: FRBR is a conceptual model of the bibliographic universe created within IFLA to describe entities, relationships, and attributes (i.e., metadata). User tasks are also related to traditional objectives for catalogs.
As FRBR puts it, a manifestation is the physical embodiment of an expression of a work. In order to record something you have to put it on or in some container or carrier.
FRBR Group 3 entities are the subjects of works. These can be concepts, objects, events, places, and any of the Group 1 or Group 2 entities. For example, you can have a work about another work or a work about a person or corporate body.
The FRBR model includes four levels of representation: work, expression, manifestation, and item.
The FRBR conceptual model is intended to meet the end users needs. This data model proposes the creation of bibliographic concepts (work, expression, manifestation and item) and a new way to formalise relations between these bibliographic entities.

FRBR comprises groups of entities: Group 1 entities are work, expression, manifestation, and item (WEMI). They represent the products of intellectual or artistic endeavor. Group 2 entities are person, family and corporate body, responsible for the custodianship of Group 1s intellectual or artistic endeavor.
Group 1 entities are the foundation of the FRBR model: Work is a distinct intellectual or artistic creation. For example, Beethovens Ninth Symphony apart from all ways of expressing it is a work. When we say, Beethovens Ninth is magnificent! we generally are referring to the work.
The FRBR model includes four levels of representation: work, expression, manifestation, and item. (See Background section below.) If fully implemented, FRBR would produce the biggest change cataloging has seen in the last century.
