Christa Corrigan McAuliffe (born Sept. 2, 1948, Boston, Mass., U.S.died Jan. 28, 1986, in-flight, off Cape Canaveral, Fla.) American teacher who was chosen to be the first private citizen in space.
McAuliffe remarried and in 1992 became a federal judge, serving with the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire in Concord. Her son, Scott, completed graduate studies in marine biology, and her daughter, Caroline, went on to pursue the same career as her mother: teaching.
EDUCATION: Graduated from Marian High School, Framingham, Massachusetts, in 1966; received a bachelor of arts degree, Framingham State College, 1970; and a masters degree in education, Bowie State College, Bowie, Maryland, 1978.
McAuliffe was born in Boston on Sept. 2, 1948. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Framingham State College, Framingham, Ma. and a masters degree in education from Bowie State College, Bowie, Md.
