These Grant Assurances cover a range of safety, operations and financial matters that are designed to make sure that the airport is operated in a manner consistent with federal policies and regulations.
As part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program provides $14.5 billion in funding over five years starting in FY 2022. This includes up to $2.39 billion for primary airports and up to $500 million for nonprimary airports.
The fiscal 2025 Transportation-HUD appropriations bill approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee on July 25 would allow a total of $27.0 billion in total new funding for the Federal Aviation Administration in 2025, $1.9 billion more than last year and $236 million more than the House bill.
AIG for eligible projects cover 90 percent of the eligible costs by the FAA, with 10 percent covered by the airport sponsor. AIP funds are covered 90 percent by the FAA, 5 percent by the State of Minnesota, and 5 percent by the airport sponsor. The state and local funding splits for AIP and AIG vary by state.
