Personalized plates cost $15 each year in addition to your regular registration fee (including wheel tax, if applicable). For biennial registration, the cost is $30 in even numbered years, $15 in odd numbered years. Why do I have to pay the personalized plate fee every year?
You will receive new license plates in the mail within two weeks after WisDOT processes your paperwork.
How many characters can I have on personalized plates? ​You can have from 1 to 7 characters, numbers or capital letters only, on standard design plates (  automobile,  light truck​,  farm truck and  motor home),  In God We Trust​ or  Wisconsin National Guard plates.
Your first Collector Special plate will have the same number as your collector number. Subsequent vehicles registered with Collector Special plates will have your collector number plus a letter suffix. Collector special plates cannot be personalized, other than the Collector number and suffix.
If your requested plate configuration is not available, you may submit additional configuration choices with your paid receipt or you may apply for a refund of the $15 application fee. If your requested plate configuration is available, your plates will be ordered (turnaround time may be six to eight weeks).
