If you are still in NHS employment you should contact your employer for a Retirement benefits claim form (AW8) which they can get from the Employer Hub. This includes if you opted out of the scheme, achieved maximum membership or maximum pensionable age but remained in NHS employment.
You can claim your deferred pension benefits at any time between age 55 and 75. We pay your deferred benefits from your normal pension age unless you decide to take them earlier at a reduced rate, or later at an enhanced rate.

A refund is not possible as entitlement to pension benefits will now exist. This still applies even though you will have less than the normal two years qualifying membership required for deferred pension benefits.
