The Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy is a residential program committed to improving the quality of life for 16 to 18 year old at-risk teens. In the residential phase, much of the cadets time is spent in classrooms where preparing for the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) testing is the priority.
The Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy is a residential program committed to improving the quality of life for 16.9 to 19 year old teens who are at-risk of not graduating from high school.
Since 1993, the National Guard Youth Challenge Program has given teenagers a second chance by teaching them self-discipline, leadership and responsibility as they work toward a high school diploma or equivalency. To date, more than 200,000 young men and women have graduated from the program.
What is the Challenge Academy? A 5-month, quasi-military, residential, alternative education program that offers students the opportunity to earn their high school equivalency diploma, replace negative habits with positive ones, and develop the life skills necessary to be successful, responsible citizens.
There is no cost from the families to attend the Challenge Academy. The cost of the program is covered by State and Federal dollars. The families are required to provide a small list of personal items for the Cadet (t-shirts, socks, underwear, etc.)

There is NO cost to attend the academy. Uniforms, meals, and linens are provided. Cadets only have to bring personal hygiene items and a pair of running shoes.
This is a cost-free program that is open to permanent legal residents in each of the participating states/territories (see map).
