The SAT Reasoning Test is a standardized test that is required for college admission by many colleges and universities in the United States. More colloquially, the test is usually just called the SAT, and the letters are actually a pseudo-acronym, meaning that they dont stand for anything.
The SAT Reasoning exam tests applicants skills of critical reading, writing, and math. The test is administered over the span of three and a-half-hours with 10 sections (3 math, 3 critical reading, and 3 writing with one experimental ungraded section from any of the three parts).
SAT R (Redesigned SAT) is just the updated version of the original SAT I (also known as the SAT Reasoning Test). The SAT R was introduced in March 2016 and has since replaced the SAT I. The Redesigned SAT consists of two main sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.
In other words, a 1080 places you below average, while a 1255 will move you up to above average.
