The development of such GWS and web mapping technologies is a recent tendency in geoscience. Most modern GWS adopts three-tier client-server architecture for system implementation [19, 24,25], that includes a user interface tier, Web Services (WS) tier, and data server tier.
GIS helps to harvest light to assess the suitability of installing solar (photo-voltaic) panels on roofs using 3D city models and geometric information such as the tilt, orientation and area of the roof. GIS helps to improve urban planning, architecture, and overall feasibility of any project that is to be implemented.
The three-tier architecture is the most popular implementation of a multi-tier architecture and consists of a single presentation tier, logic tier, and data tier. The following illustration shows an example of a simple, generic three-tier application.
