WVUs Charleston campus is a regional campus of the West Virginia University School of Medicine where nearly one-third of WVUs third- and fourth-year medical students complete their training through an affiliation with Charleston Area Medical Center.
CAMC has been a teaching hospital for nearly 50 years. On any given day, there are about 800 learners in our facilities. These include doctors and nurses, as well as a variety of other professions.
The Caribbean Association of Medical Councils (CAMC) administers an examination for trained medical practitioners who wish to practice within the contributory CARICOM Member States.
An affiliation with the newly formed Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) to direct CAMC residency programs was also established that year. In 1977, the WVU Education Building at 3110 MacCorkle Avenue in Charleston was built, primarily through funding from The Sarah and Pauline Maier Foundation.
CAMC is expanding its role as an Academic Medical Center and its commitment to providing simulation training, education, research and learning experiences to staff, employees and health care professionals throughout our state with its new, state-of-the-art Center for Learning and Research.
