How long does it take AKC to register a litter?

There is a litter registration fee of $25.00 plus $2.00 per puppy. Registrations take approximately 18 working days from the date mailed to AKC to be processed and returned to the owner. After the litter application is processed, we issue the dog registration applications.

What is considered a litter?

Lit is the French word for bed. A bed is the natural place for newborn animals to be born. Sometimes straw would be strewn on the floor of a barn to create a litter.

What is a litter in AKC?

A litter is the puppy or puppies of one whelping. Litter registration is the recording of the birth of a litter of puppies that are offspring of an AKC-registered sire and dam of the same breed.

What is considered a litter for dogs?

A big litter is usually considered eight or more puppies, with some dogs having as many as 18 puppies in a litter. However, a litter this large is uncommon. Smaller litters are those where the dog has three or fewer pups, but its all relative to size.
