Lady Bird Lake is a part of the Colorado River that runs through downtown Austin and was created after the construction of the Longhorn Dam in 1960. The lake stretches for over 400 acres, so you wont have trouble finding a space to cool off and explore.
While boating, swimming, water skiing, sailing, and fishing are popular Lake Travis water sports, its also a great place for scuba diving. The average depth of the lake is 62 feet. However, when full, the deepest part of the lake between Volente and Hudson Bend can reach depths of 210 feet.
Lady Bird follows Christine Lady Bird McPherson as she moves through her senior year of high school, planning to escape from her family and town to go to college in New York, much to the disapproval of her strong-willed mother.
The City of Austin does have a few rules in place to make the lake a safe and enjoyable place for all people: there is no prohibition on swimming, but it is highly not recommended to swim across the lake or in immediate proximity to high-volume traffic areas.
