Dont crowd locals at beaches or parks or when you surf. Dont close the bars. Dont leave valuables out as easy pickings -- at the beach, in your car, on your lanai or just inside the lani screen doors. Dont sleep with your sliders open, even if youre not on a ground floor.
The drive is rich with waterfalls, black sand beaches, bamboo forests, lava rock formations and amazing ocean views as you wind your way through 620 curves and 59 bridges. Access to West Maui is restricted in Lahaina, Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua. Other areas of the island, such as Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Pāʻia and Hāna as well as the other islands, are safe for travelers. Travel mindfully and mālama (care for) the island of Maui and the local community.
