AMS Style refers to the citation format of the American Mathematical Society which includes Journal of Algebra, Communications in Algebra, Proceedings in the American Mathematical Society, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, and American Mathematical Monthly among others.
You are probably familiar with APA, MLA, and Chicago styles of citations for research papers. For mathematics papers there is no standard citation style, but a good one to learn is the one used by the American Mathematical Society. Ask your advisor or professor about the citation style they prefer.
AMS Style refers to the citation format established by the American Mathematical Society. With AMS, the # sign in brackets represents the order that the citation is mentioned in the text of the paper. For example, [5] would indicate that this is the fifth citation found in the text.
You can adapt this to the style of the journal in which your citation is to appear, but the key items of information should all be there: authors name(s), year and month of publication, title, journal name and volume number, retrieval date, and exact URL.
Use the following template to cite a website using the AMS citation style. Template: Author Surname, A., Year Published: Title. (Accessed October 10, 2013).
