These two beach areas are private and for the exclusive use of White Sand Beach Association members only. Old Lyme Town Residents parking is limited to the Town Parking Lot only.

Pets are permitted on beaches from the Tuesday after Labor Day until the Friday before Memorial Day ONLY**; must be under owners control at all times and it is the owners responsibility to clean-up all pet waste. Dogs are not permitted on the Niantic Bay Boardwalk at any time during the year.
While some are reserved for town residents only, many are open to the general public. For a beach day with no fees, state parks like Sherwood Island in Westport, for example are free to Connecticut residents.
The town of Lyme was set off from Saybrook (now known as Deep River), which is on the west bank of the Connecticut River mouth, on February 13, 1665. South Lyme was incorporated from Lyme in 1855, then renamed Old Lyme in 1857, because it contains the oldest-settled portion of the Lymes.
