Autocross is a form of car racing where drivers navigate through a course defined by traffic cones on a large paved area such as a parking lot or airport tarmac. At these events, rather than face multiple cars in a wheel-to-wheel race, participants go through the course one at a time as a computer clocks them.
History. The SCCA traces its roots to the Automobile Racing Club of America (not to be confused with the current stock car series of the same name). ARCA was founded in 1933 by brothers Miles and Sam Collier, and dissolved in 1941 at the outbreak of World War II. The SCCA was formed in 1944 as an enthusiast group.
The Fiesta joins the Dodge Caliber, Fiat 500, GEO Tracker, Suzuki Sidekick, Jeep CJ Series, MINI Countryman, Nissan Juke, Suzuki Samurai, Scion xB (04-06), and Scion iQ on the list of cars banned from competing in the SCCAs Street Category. The complete SCCA Solo Rules can be found here.
Autocross events are low to medium speed car control events. Most events are held in large parking lots or airports but some events are held on race tracks and go-kart tracks. Courses are created using traffic cones, and sometimes outlined in chalk to help with visuals.
SCCA has a long history of professional racing to go along with its amateur ranks. SCCA pro series started with the USRRC sports cars and along the way have included the ground-pounding Trans Am and 1,100-horsepower Can Am cars. Cars and vehicles are classed in SCCA road racing ing to type and modifications.

Because autocross is typically in a large, open lot or course, under 60mph, and one car at a time, it is very safe, if you use common sense and follow the rules. Its also relatively easy on your car, and beginners can bring a street car - no issues. Theres even a set of classes for showroom stock.
