The 2023/24 Global Feed Grains Production Estimate Is Increased. The 2023/24 U.S. feed grains production estimate is raised this month to 402.6 million metric tons. This increase is attributed to gains in the corn crop, which is slightly offset by a reduction in sorghum output.
Crop progress and condition estimates are obtained from data provided by the non-probability crop progress and condition survey. NASS reports typically cover the full U.S. growing season and are based on survey data collected each week from early April through the end of November.
The World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) is prepared and released by the World Agricultural Outlook Board (WAOB). The report is released monthly, and provides annual forecasts for supply and use of U.S. and world wheat, rice, coarse grains, oilseeds, and cotton.
The September WASDE report was bearish relative to trade expectations for corn, neutral for the soybean complex, and supportive for wheat. While the corn and soybean yields were cut from the August forecast as expected, USDA raised the planted and harvested acres for both crops which offset the impact to production.
The NASS Crop Production report and the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report are prepared simultaneously in a secured area and released at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time between the 9th and 12th day of each month.
