During a review of the William T. Hornaday Award, the BSA uncovered issues with Dr. Hornaday that go against the BSAs values, and it was determined that the conservation award should no longer bear his name in order to uphold the BSAs commitment against racism and discrimination.
The Lifesaving Merit Badge was one of the original 57 merit badges. This badge is primarily for Scouts to understand the requirements to save a person in a water accident. This badge is a requirement for the Eagle Scout Award. Merit badges are awarded to Scouts who complete the requirements for each badge.
