What are the OASIS-E changes that were implemented in 2023? The OASIS-E changes represent data set item additions and removals, new assessment items, changes in guidance for current items and a complete restructuring of sections and item numbers to match data assessment items in other Post-Acute care settings.
The Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) is a comprehensive assessment designed to collect information on nearly 100 items related to a home care recipients demographic information, clinical status, functional status, and service needs (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services [CMS], 2009a).
OASIS is a novel severity score which aims to simplify risk adjustment in critical care. While calculation of traditional severity scores can be laborious, in particular as some scores have over 20 variables and 100 diagnostic categories, OASIS only requires 10 variables.
OASIS-E: Breaking Down Section A The OASIS data elements are designed for home health organizations to integrate into their comprehensive assessment to collect and report quality data to the CMS.

It comes with major revisions that standardize data across post-acute care settings to allow the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to uniformly collect social determinants of health data and standardize quality measures driven by the IMPACT Act.
