Answer and Explanation: Tennessee and Missouri are tied with one another for the state that borders the most other states. Each borders eight states. Tennessee borders Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.
This was known as the Mexican Cession and included present-day Arizona and New Mexico and parts of Utah, Nevada, and Colorado (see Article V of the treaty). Mexico also relinquished all claims to Texas and recognized the Rio Grande as the southern boundary with the United States (see Article V).
Texas claimed the Rio Grande as its southern border. Mexico said the Nueces River, to the north, should be the border. The dispute simmered until Dec. 29, 1845, when the U.S. annexed the Lone Star State, and sent troops to the Rio Grande a month later.
