While the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church is of Scottish origin, it never had organic existence in Scotland. It was organized in Philadelphia on Nov. 1, 1782. Its name is historical, and implies that it was formed by union of Associate Presbyterians and Reformed Presbyterians.
The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARP) was organized in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1782. It was the result of a merger between most of the Reformed Presbyterians and the Associate Presbyterians who had immigrated to America from Scotland and Ireland in the days before the American Revolution.
The ARP Church is affiliated with the North American Presbyterian and Reformed Council and shares a common theology with other conservative Presbyterian denominations. It holds to the infallibility and inerrancy of the Bible.
Today the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, or the ARP, is an international body of believers. Our only King and Head of the Church is the Lord Jesus Christ; our sole primary standard is the Word of God; and our secondary standard is the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. ( 1642-1650)
The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God without error in all that it teaches. We believe Christ is the Son of God. We believe God the Father gave His Son to save us from our sins. We believe that the Holy Spirit reveals Christ to us through the Holy Scripture which is the Word of God written.
