Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Requirements. All courses must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher. Courses used to meet IGETC requirements must have a minimum of 3 semester or 4 quarter units. (Exceptions may be made for English composition and Math.
Students who do not complete IGETC before transferring will be required to satisfy the lower-division general education/breadth requirements of the UC college or school they attend. However, California community colleges may grant partial certification of IGETC to students who are missing no more than two requirements.
G.E. requirements vary by campus Students at a California community college also have the option of completing the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) to satisfy the lower-division general education requirements at any UC campus.
No IGETC is NOT a requirement, however if you dont complete it you run the risk of having to take many GEs at the college you get into. IGETC ensures all your ges are certified and you dont have retake any of them at the UC.
Advantages of completing IGETC may include more flexibility in class selection at the university and timely progress to degree completion. Most UC and CSU campuses will accept the completed IGETC to satisfy lower-division general education requirements.

Students transferring to a CSU campus may choose to use the CSU GE-Breadth pattern in lieu of IGETC. Students may elect the GE pattern (GE-Breadth or IGETC) for certification at the time of transfer because nearly all IGETC coursework is embedded in the CSU GE-Breadth pattern.
Should you do IGETC? IGETC is not a UC admissions requirement and completion does not guarantee admission. However, to be competitive, depending on major, if youre at a CCC you should try and complete IGETC. Usually the social sciences, arts, and humanities recommend IGETC.
