The University provides short-term tuition loans and emergency cash loans to students. Tuition loans have a one- to three-month repayment period and are applied directly to the students tuition bill. Emergency cash loans are due in full one month from the date of issue. Web cash loans are limited to one every 30 days.
EMERGENCY LOANS Just-in-time intervention aid for students to address hardship related to the timing of a students financial aid disbursement. The loans are interest-free, up to $500 and must be paid back within a designated time period.
Emergency Cash Loans (maximum of $500) are available to students currently enrolled for at least 6 hours. This loan is always due one month from the date the promissory note is signed. Students do not have to be physically in Austin, Texas to apply for and receive this loan.
The College Access Loan (CAL) is a credit-based loan program for Texas residents administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
The auto admit policy at UT Austin guarantees automatic admission to Texas high school students who graduate in the top percentile of their classhistorically, the top 6%. Under the new policy starting with the fall 2026 admissions cycle, only students in the top 5% will be automatically admitted.

To apply for financial assistance, students are required to complete either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). The FAFSA should be completed by students who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens.
