Modular Budgets NIH uses a modular budget format to request up to a total of $250,000 of direct costs per year (in modules of $25,000, excluding consortium FA costs) for some applications, rather than requiring a full detailed budget.
The budget justification is a categorical description of the proposed costs. Generally, it explains staffing and supply/service consumption patterns, the methods used to estimate/calculate (including escalation or inflation factors) and other details such as lists of items that make up the total costs for a category.
When a grant program contains mulitple goals, it is possible for the recipient to complete part of the goals and for the entity to perform another part. If the scope of the agreement is per the federal program terms/guidance, the entity is a subrecipient.
Under 2 CFR 200.92, the Uniform Guidance, Subaward means an award provided by a pass-through entity to a subrecipient for the subrecipient to carry out part of a Federal award received by the pass-through entity.
A subaward is a portion of the grant award passed down from the primary recipient (the grantee) to a secondary recipient (the subrecipient). This transfer of funds comes with specific conditions and responsibilities.
