Qualifications New Mexico resident. First-time degree-seeking student which means the student must not have a bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree. Students are encouraged, but not required, to complete a FAFSA. Must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher.
Complete at least fifteen credit hours with a semester GPA of 2.5 or better in the first term of college, the Qualifying Semester.
The Advantage Scholarship covers a portion of tuition and registration fees for current CNM students and is available every term. Students will need to meet with an advisor to apply. Award determinations will be sent to students via email.
What happens if I fail or drop a class? If you fail or drop a class and need to retake it, you do not have to reimburse us for the costs of those classes. The amount paid for those classes will be deducted from your maximum award amount which means you will have less funds available to complete your degree.

There is no application required for the Opportunity Scholarship. If you meet the eligibility criteria, our Scholarship team will work with you to award the scholarship. For 2023-2024, the Fast Track programs, CNM Online College, Law Enforcement Academy will be covered at $115.50 per credit hour.
You are 18 or older. You are eligible to receive the Opportunity Scholarship if: You are enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at a public or Tribal college or university in New Mexico. You maintain a 2.5 GPA beginning the first semester you receive the scholarship.
Students who maintain eligibility can transfer the Opportunity and Lottery Scholarships to a four-year institution and may be eligible for a total of up to seven terms. You can visit the New Mexico Higher Education Department website for more information.
