From January 2023, the full BTWFD is 42 for a child aged under 12 and 50 for a child aged 12 and over. It is paid for each child (up to a limit of 4 children) for one year. In the second year, it is reduced to 21 for a child aged under 12 and 25 for a child aged 12 and over.
The WFP payment you get is 60% of the difference between your average weekly family income and the WFP income limit for your family size. For more information, see Rate of Working Family Payment below. WFP is not taxed.

WFP pays 60% of the difference between your total family income and the income limit which applies to your family. To find out your weekly rate of WFP, firstly calculate your total family income. Secondly, take away your total family income from the maximum income limit set for your family size (see table below).
The FIS you receive is 60% of the difference between your net family income and the income limit which applies to your family.

BTWFD is a weekly payment into your bank account. It will last for up to two years, if you or your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant remain in employment. If you or your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant return to claim a social protection payment at any time within the two year period, the BTWFD payment will stop.
If your pay from work is reduced If you are also getting the Working Family Payment (WFP), your WFP rate will stay the same. However, if the number of hours you work is reduced to below 19 hours a week (38 hours a fortnight), you are no longer entitled to WFP.
