The Federal and California Earned Income Tax Credits (EITCs) are special tax breaks for people who work part time or full time. This means extra cash in your pocket. If you have work income, you can file and claim your EITC refunds, even if you dont owe any income tax.
You can still qualify for EIC without dependents.
Who qualifies. You may claim the EITC if your income is low- to moderate. The amount of your credit may change if you have children, dependents, are disabled or meet other criteria. Military and clergy should review our Special EITC Rules because using this credit may affect other government benefits.
If you qualify for the EITC, you may also qualify for the Child Tax Credit and the Credit for Other Dependents, Child and Dependent Care Credit, and Education Credits.
For a taxpayer without qualifying children, to qualify for EIC, you must: Have at least some earned income. Be at least 25 years old on January 1, 2025 and no older than 64 on December 31, 2025.

If you earned less than $66,819 (if Married Filing Jointly) or $59,899 (if filing as Single, Qualifying Surviving Spouse or Head of Household) in tax year 2024, you may qualify for the Earned Income Credit (EIC). These amounts increased from $63,398 and $56,838, respectively, for 2023.
You qualify for the federal earned income credit under the Internal Revenue Code adopted by the state. You have at least one qualifying child. The federal definition of a qualifying child applies for Wisconsin purposes. You are a legal resident of Wisconsin all year.
