As a best practice, you should configure the Default Domain Policy GPO only to manage the default Account Policies settings, Password Policy, Account Lockout Policy, and Kerberos Policy. Additionally, you should configure the Default Domain Controllers Policy GPO only to set user rights and audit policies.
I usually make a few simple recommendations when teaching people about GPOs: Dont disable GPOs. Do not use the Users or Computers folders that are right off the root of the domain. Dont mix AD objects in OUs. OU Structure is extremely important in regards to GPOs. Avoid blocking policy inheritance if possible.
You should avoid configuring conflicting settings in your GPOs from the beginning as a rule of thumb. GPOs set with a lower link order -- such as 1 -- will override GPOs with a higher link order when processing. Moreover, GPOs set at a lower level OU will override GPOs set at a higher level OU.
Create GPO that applies to all except a specific group of people Open group policy management. In the group policy management open the policy object that you would like to make the exception. Click add button and choose the group you would like to exclude.
The largest pair is Group Policy (GP) and Group Policy Preferences (GPP). GP is the normal part of GPO and the older of the two. When setting local GPO, youll only see GP as an option. GPP is only available when setting policies from a domain controller.
