The Castle Doctrine This English common law rule, now adopted by Oklahoma as part of the Oklahoma Firearms act of 1971, recognizes that Oklahoma citizens have a right to expect absolute safety within their own homes or places of business.
As a result, Oklahoma law now generally authorizes any person who may legally purchase and possess a firearm and who is at least 21 years of age to carry loaded firearms in public, openly or concealed, without a license,1 subject to the same location restrictions as people carrying with a license.
The Oklahoma Self Defense Act Safety Course class is required to obtain a license in the State of Oklahoma to legally conceal or open carry a firearm for self-defense. The class requires eight hours of instruction on Title 21, Oklahoma Law and safe handling of a firearm.
