At a cashless tolling facility, if an E-ZPass tag is not present in a vehicle or if the tag is not read by the tag reader, an image of the vehicle license plate will be captured. If that license plate is associated with an E-ZPass account, the toll will post to that account.
Yes, E-ZPass customers are required to have their transponder properly mounted in their vehicle when going through a toll facility. However, we will attempt to deduct the toll from your E-ZPass account using your license plate information.
To make traveling the PA Turnpike safer and easier, weve implemented All-Electronic Tolling across the entire roadway. You no longer stop at Toll Points. Non-E-ZPass customers now pay their toll using PA Turnpike Toll By Plate.
How the PA Turnpike Commission communicates with customers that have overdue toll bills. The PTC does not text our E-ZPass or Toll By Plate customers. However, we do work with two debt collection agencies, Harris and Harris and TSI. Both companies will text customers that have a significant overdue balance.
The PA Turnpike Commissions tolling system will take images of license plates of vehicles not equipped with a valid E‑ZPass transponder. A Toll By Plate (TBP) invoice will be mailed to the vehicles registered owner.
