Summer and fall graduates have the option to participate in the May commencement ceremony either before or after completing their degree. To do so, they must apply for graduation via MyStudentCenter in the spring semester of the year they plan to participate. Graduation is fulfilling your degree requirements.
You must satisfy the following requirements in order to be awarded a Bachelors degree from CSULB: Earn the number of units required for your degree, a minimum of 120 units. Earn a Minimum of 30 Units in Residence. Earn a Minimum of 40 Upper-Division Units. Activity Units. Complete the General Education (GE) Pattern.
If you are requesting your leave before the end of the second week of class, drop your classes using MyCSULB Student Center. If you are requesting your leave after the second week of class, complete the online withdrawal request to withdraw from all classes. (See Request to Withdraw.)
Students may apply for an educational leave of one or two semesters. Prior to the expiration of a current leave, a student may request in writing a one semester extension, without applying for an additional leave.
If your advisor supports your request to change your graduation term, they will submit a request on your behalf in the student record system. Your request will be reviewed to ensure that it complies with the Timely Graduation for Undergraduate Students policy. You may be required to submit a Timely Graduation Appeal.

STUDENT SUCCESS 2025 CSULB has raised its 6-year graduation rates from 53% to the current high of 67%, and 4-year transfer graduation rates have improved from 69% to the current 80%.
Undergraduate students may repeat 28 units over their entire CSULB undergraduate career, of which 16 units maximum can be for grade forgiveness, in which the grade in the first attempt is excluded from the GPA. Students may repeat courses only if a D, F, WU, or NC was earned.
