The Protecting MI Pension Grant Program was created to help Michigans underfunded municipal systems. Under the Fiscal Year 2022-23 budget, the Michigan Department of Treasury appropriated dollars to establish and operate a program for qualified retirement systems that were underfunded as outlined in state law.
To apply for MTG, a student must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To check the status of an application, the student can log into the MiSSG Student Portal at michigan.gov/missg. The deadline for Academic Year 2023-24 is May 1, 2023.
Categorical grants can be used only for a specifically aided program and usually are limited to narrowly defined activities.
Michigan Educational Opportunity Grant Students need to attend a community or technical college at least half time to qualify. Academic progress is a factor in continuing the funding. Grants are available up to $1,000. Students may apply through the school they plan to attend and must complete the FAFSA.
