In order to maintain certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) PAs must: Take a recertification exam every 10 years. Earn 100 CME credits every two years, including at least 50 Category 1 CME credits.
In order to renew a license, completion of 100 credit hours of continuing medical education in the preceding biennial period, which runs from January 1 of the odd year through December 31 of the next even year, will be required for medical doctors.
Pursuant to California Code of Regulations (CCR), title 16, section 1399.615, a physician assistant who is renewing their license is required to complete a minimum of fifty (50) hours of approved continuing medical education (CME) during each two (2) year renewal period.
Once youve passed the PANCE exam, you can use the PA-C designation. Your certification is a 10-year period that requires recertification every two years. To qualify for recertification, you must have completed a minimum of 100 hours of CME during the two-year period.
The 10-year certification maintenance process includes five two-year cycles during which all Board Certified PAs must earn and log 100 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits and submit a certification maintenance fee by 11:59 p.m. PT, December 31 of their certification expiration year.
