Having dyslexia can sometimes make you feel frustrated or sad. With the right help, though, you can learn to readand even to enjoy readingand you can be anything you want to be.
The association supports and encourages interdisciplinary study and research; facilitates the exploration of causes and early identification of dyslexia; and is committed to the wide dissemination of research-based knowledge on the condition.
In 2002 the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) adopted the following definition of dyslexia: a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.
Some dyslexics are able to remember the shape of words theyve seen and how to say them. But, for them, the process of how to read might remain fuzzy. As a result, they end up guessing at a lot of words while reading. This might not be a problem when reading for pleasure, where its not vital to recognise every word.
