Located on the border of Monterey County and San Benito County, Fremont Peak State Parks 3,169-foot pinnacle provides panoramic views of San Benito Valley, Monterey Bay and the Santa Lucia Mountains.
Experience this 1.1-mile loop trail near San Juan Bautista, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 37 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.
Previously called Gavilan Peak, it is now named for John C. Frmont, an American explorer and a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Topographical Engineers at the time. In 1846, he and a crew of 60 armed surveyors mounted the peak to assess its military value. The peak commands the inland approach from Monterey.
