WorkSafeBC accepts our Canadian Red Cross Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED C (Blended) course equivalent to WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA 1).
While Red Cross Standard First Aid IS recognized by Worksafe BC as equivalent to an OFA 1 certification, this doesnt quite mean that they are the same. If a job requires Standard First Aid, an OFA 1 certification would NOT be acceptable.
Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA 1) is an 8 hour course that prepares workers to be first aid attendants in relatively low risk environments where a hospital is close by.
Upon successful completion, students receive a WorkSafeBC OFA Level 1 Certificate, valid for three years.

One of the biggest differences between Occupational First Aid Level 1 and 2 is the content. Level 1 covers basic topics such as CPR, AED use, and bleeding control, while Level 2 goes into more depth on topics such as burns, fractures, and head injuries.
Here are the unique differences between the Level 3 First Aid at Work course and the level 2 EFAW work qualification course: First aid at Work training lasts three days, while EFAW only lasts one day. The FAW course covers more in-depth treatment issues and deals with higher-risk situations.
Red Cross Emergency First Aid, and Red Cross Standard First Aid are now officially recognized by Worksafe BC as equivalent to OFA 1.
