HHAs do not need to have any formal education or training, and they are not required to pass any certification exams. On the other hand, CHHAs are required to undergo a more rigorous training program and pass a certification exam in order to be able to provide care to patients.
Many accredited institutions offer online home health aide programs that provide the required training and education.
Tuition for the New Jersey CHHA program is $399 and is due at the time of signup for the online training program. An additional $80 money order made payable to the NJ Board of Nursing will be required for final certification. For CHHAs hired by Right at Home, tuition may be reimbursed after 120 days of employment.
Requirements to become certified as a home health aide by the NJ Board of Nursing are: complete 76 hours of training (60 classroom hours 16 clinical hands-on hours) demonstrate required skills. pass a written examination.
